Oh, the whimsy of a teenage birthday party: sodas, games, and maybe even some seven minutes in heaven, if you’re feeling really crazy. Wouldn’t cupcake-decorating be an innocent, if not dull, way to while away an afternoon inevitably stretching toward a pizza and movie marathon?
Yes, how quaint.

Or not.
Friends of a Jewish girl in Arizona decided to show their celebration of her birthday by decorating cupcakes with chocolate frosting swastikas. Why? For the presumable lulz, of course.

But the girl’s mother, Deborah Muller, was less than enthused, and shared the image to her Facebook page (though the post has since been removed), where it quickly gained traction online. The incident caused enough of an outrage that even the Arizona chapter of the Anti-Defamation League issued a comment, stating, “When you joke with symbols like the swastika, you begin to normalize them and make it very casual within our society.”
The teens have since apologized for their tasteless joke.
Mrs. Muller has also posted a statement following the incident: “Opening this hurtful incident up to others to provide a teaching moment will hopefully stop others from promoting ideas of hate is all I ever wanted.”
Perhaps next time, these teens will have learned their lesson and stick to drawing regular, harmless things like boobs and dicks on their baked goods.
