In February 2010, Tony McDaniel was arrested in Broward County, FL, and charged with battery. On the morning of Saturday, February 6, 2010, McDaniel and his girlfriend, Alaina Smith, got into an argument outside their home. According to Smith’s statement in the police report, obtained by the Palm Beach Post, when the fight escalated, McDaniel took Smith’s purse, pushed Smith to the ground—where she hit her head—and shattered her phone.

The charges were reduced to a misdemeanor for disorderly conduct. McDaniel pleaded no contest on April 26, 2010. He was sentenced to six months of probation and mandatory counseling. He was suspended from his team at the time, the Miami Dolphins, for one game.

McDaniel did not return Broadly’s request for comment.
