Another day, another baffling interview with the leader of the free world.
The latest puzzler is President Donald Trump’s incredibly troubling recounting of how he rained 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles down on Syria while dining with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The thing is, he seems to have been so mesmerized by a piece of chocolate cake that he mixed up the country he just bombed.

During a Fox Business interview Wednesday, Trump took the time to tell reporter Maria Bartiromo about the dessert he was eating at Mar-a-Lago when he informed President Xi about the strike. “I was sitting at the table. We had finished dinner. We’re now having dessert. And we had the most beautiful piece of chocolate cake that you’ve ever seen and President Xi was enjoying it.”
The President then went on to mistake the country he had just bombed for another nation entirely. “So what happens is, I said, ‘We’ve just launched 59 missiles heading to Iraq and I wanted you to know this.’ And he was eating his cake. And he was silent,” Trump stated.
Bartiromo reminded the most powerful man the world that he had, in fact, bombed Syria.
In case you were wondering what Trump, Xi, and their 30-odd guests ate before feasting upon this memory-altering piece of patisserie, the menu consisted of thumbelina carrots and New York strip steak (diners were also offered the option of a pan-seared Dover sole with Champagne sauce) paired with a Californian chardonnay, along with a Caesar salad containing homemade focaccia croutons and Parmigiano-Reggiano.
Unsurprisingly, the President’s fascination with the cake has inspired one-liners from parody Twitter accounts like Trump Cake, which has seized the opportunity to inject our beloved baked goods with some Trumpian rhetoric: “We love pan dulce, folks. As long as it comes here LEGALLY. #TrumpCake #CAGA.”
