Here's exactly what the president did and did not do on immigration

Just after noon Wednesday, President Trump signed an executive order to put an end to new family separations at the border. The politics of the move were obvious — Republicans and Democrats were united in excoriating the separation policy, and the president was running low on allies.

But the practical effects of the new order leave more questions than answers. And it doesn't appear to bring Congress any closer to an actual immigration reform bill.

VICE News sat down with a bipartisan pair of congressmen to talk about the future of this debate.

"This is a compromise between the Republicans. The Democrats have not been involved in this," Rep. John Garamendi, Democrat of California, told VICE News. "And therefore this piece of legislation has a lot of concerns on the Democratic side."
