LONDON - DEATH OF A CAT

Dear Vice,
I walked out of my house this morning and saw this. A torn sack partly concealing the stiff corpse of a dead cat. My initial reaction was that it had been dumped by a callous owner, but on the bus to work I kept wondering why the sack was so ripped open…

Did the guy ditch the bag when it broke? Was it tossed in the road and a rejuvenated kitty somehow clawed its way out, only to expire at the moment of freedom? Maybe a homeless guy found the bag in a bin and ripped it open hoping to gain something of value? Or was the shredded sack already left on the pavement when a stray cat came along, rummaged inside and perished instantly from a deadly poison contained therein?

I was telling my friend at work about all this and he sympathized by showing me a photo of his own, less mysterious, encounter with dead fox. Anyways. Have a nice day!
