MELBOURNE - ART SCHOOL ROCKS!

Bachelor of Arts have been a favorite band of ours for a little while now and when we heard they had scored a residency at Fitzroy's 'Old Bar' we thought we would drop down and see how the kids were doing. They will be playing another couple of slots every Wednesday before heading overseas so drop down and witness them peel drumsticks like bananas and generally kill it. Here's what the boys had to say…

Vice: You have  had a residency at the infamous 'Old Bar' the past few weeks, how is that working out?
Bachelors: Pretty rad actually. We're going on a bit of an overseas adventure afterwards - so this seemed like a perfect chance to play with all of the bands who we've been meaning to do shows with. It's kind of amazing to see so many folks come out week after week.

Where in the hell did you learn to play the drums like that and how many drumsticks do you go through per week Angus?
Actually, I had this great drum teacher when I was young. He moved to my town to clean up, marry and teach and was a fully fledged 80s rock giant. He works as a postman these days. I owe a lot to him. He hit hard and let's face it, there's no other way.

How did the MTV thing come about? Has it helped you guys a lot? Did you get to meet Amy Winehouse?
Hmm. I guess the only thing that we could take out of it was an insight into commercialist consumerist bull shit that we don't want to be a part of. Fuck MTV. If I ever get coached on answer ever again I will have to drop the FUCKER.

Who have your favourite bands to play with been this year so far?
Ohana, Tic Toc Tokyo, Dead-Before-Death Gang, My Disco, Die! Die! Die! Tell us a tour story that you don't want your mothers to know about?
As a general rule, Bill owns the dance floor no matter what city we're in. Seriously! This one time in Adelaide it was a massacre. Bill is the only Bachelor with a steady relationship, yet his confidence with his moves! Kevin is the darkhorse - obviously. And may we add… Sydney is quite a town!

I heard your old DIY album is being re-released in Spain, what's the deal with that?
It was actually re-released a while back by this really small label. Just hand delivered distro and all that. Juan the guy who helped us out is really passionate and used a few of the tracks for some Primavera festival thing too. No big deal really. It's a pretty suss recording if you can find it!

What do you guys get-up to when you're not playing?
Golden Axe, NBA Jam Tournament Edition; the SNES is really 'a'happening' console.
We all actually study too. But like what, two days a week or whatnot? I guess that's what it's all about.

Plans for the near and distant future?
Well, we have an album coming out on EXO Records then i guess we hit up our US friends for some places to sleep whilst we're touring. I might even go to live in Chicago.

Decribe the tactics you would use as a band to win a street fight against Jesus?
Well if it was past 2am I wouldn't have to worry as he'd be locked in that tomb. There ain't no resurrecting in Melbourne town no more!

Thanks, praise, hate ?
We love Canadians. It seems they're everywhere though; we have no choice.
