Tesla Model X Throws Down In a Supercar Drag Race

How does the “fastest and most capable sport utility vehicle in history" hold up against a race car?

Tell me a throw down drag race between a Bentley Bentayga and a Tesla Model X P90D isn't the most perfect example of affluence meets nerdery.

The dudes over at Motor Trend Channel had the great idea to compare the so-called (according to Bentley) "fastest, most powerful, most luxurious, most exclusive SUV ever" against the Tesla Model X's remarkably quick acceleration.

Right now, the Bentley shown will cost you somewhere around $275,790, while the Tesla comes in at $135,400. And if you have that kind of dough to spend on an SUV, instead of, you know, a house or something, you'll want to know which one reigns supreme. So here we go.

Bentley claims its car can reach speeds of up to 187 miles per hour, while also touting some impressive off-road capabilities. Tesla's internal computer system and high-tech features, though, provides a truly new luxury that other cars just haven't been able to match. But when it comes to looks, no one can really deny that both cars are just downright hideous. The Bentley's weirdly aligned headlights are compared to "a botched boobjob," which, okay… And the Tesla's exaggerated windshield gives the appearance of a receding hairline. However, neither of these features have anything to do with pure speed.

In actual tests, the Bentayga was able to reach 60 miles per hour in 3.5 seconds, while the Model X came in significantly faster at 3.2 seconds. But in an all out race, the Bentley's twin turbo W12 engine beats the Tesla's electric motor, with top speeds a full 32 miles per hour higher.

But to show off just how quick the Tesla Model X is, the car was matched up against an Italian supercar, the Alfa 4C Spider, which has a proven acceleration speed of 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 4.2 seconds.

To make things even more ludicrous, another Alfa 4C was attached to the back of the Model X, adding approximately 4,000 pounds of extra weight to the SUV. And, as you can see, the results aren't even close. Despite a handicap of lugging an entire other car on a trailer, the Tesla just killed it. This thing isn't just fast, it's really, really fast.

So there you have it. Tesla wasn't kidding when it called the Model X the "fastest and most capable sport utility vehicle in history."

Sorry to say that both the Tesla and the Bentley are currently sold out. And if you're absolutely dying to own a Model X, I don't recommend publicly complaining about how hard it is to get a Tesla, lest the company's CEO ban you from ever purchasing one or whatever. But even if that happens, if you had that much money in the first place, I'm sure you'll be just fine.
