VICE SPORTS WORLD NEWS ROUNDUP: July 1

Our morning roundup of the sports news from around the world
Jean-Yves Ahern-USA TODAY Sports

Good morning, America. Welcome to the VICE Sports world news roundup. Be sure to stop by daily for your morning headlines.

It's the 1st of July, 2015, and Sepp Blatter is still FIFA president.

In the Women's World Cup, the United States beat Germany 2-0. It was a thrilling match, with spells of domination for each team. Tonight, England plays Japan in the tournament's second semifinal.

The consensus among the German press is that the loss was deserved. Germany played well for periods, but were outplayed for long stretches. Bizarrely, Germany coach Silvia Neid only made one of three possible substitutions.

Oh, but what could have been!

In Copa America, Argentina put a hurt on Paraguay, winning 6-1. Argentina will take on Chile in the final on Saturday.

UEFA is considering sanctions against Barcelona. During the Champions League final, Barca fans waved Catalan flags and banners in support of an independent Catalonia. It's about how politics and football should not mix, or something.

Over in Madrid, Rayo Vallecano has released its 2015-16 uniform. It's dedicated to "society's anonymous heroes." You see? Football and politics.

Up in England, Chelsea signed Radamel Falcao. The team loves strikers who were once good but are no longer so good because of serious knee injuries.

Also in England, Leicester fired manager Nigel Pearson. Peterson's departure has to do with his son James who, as you might recall, was a member of "the sex tape trio," who were caught making racist remarks while having sex with Thai prostitutes earlier this year.
