On Monday, the Senate Judiciary Committee begins confirmation hearings for Judge Neil Gorsuch, President Trump's nominee to fill the late Antonin Scalia's spot on the Supreme Court. Nominating Gorsuch is one of the most important things Trump has done so far as president, since the 49-year-old will potentially tip the SCOTUS scales toward conservatism for a generation to come.

Republicans likely have the Senate votes to confirm Gorsuch, who has been mostly met with unified support from the party. But Democrats are still fuming from the block of Merrick Garland, Obama's final nominee, last year, and will likely put up a fight. They could also attempt a filibuster.

The hearing is currently scheduled to last four days and will begin with opening statements from senators and Gorsuch making a case for himself. The hearing will really heat up on Tuesday, when senators get to take turns grilling the nominee individually for 30 minutes at a time.
