Skrillex's recent tour of India, which has seen him play dates all over the country—from Bangalore to Mumbai—has been struck by tragedy after a young woman reportedly died during the Gurgaon date of his tour, on October 12th. According to The Tribune, The 23-year-old—fashion designer Aanchal Arora—reportedly collapsed during the concert and could not be revived after falling unconscious. Initial reports are indicating she died from a cardiac arrest as a result of suffocation. A doctor has said that it is suspected Aanchal hadn't eaten or drunk in several hours, so exhaustion most likely also played a part. What is clear according to almost all reports is that the venue was drastically over-full and overcrowding is being considered a viable root cause for the incident. As reported by the Hindustan Times, the Assistant Commissioner of Police has commented, "the organisers had said they expected a crowd of about 5,000. But, nearly 10,000 people turned up for the concert. The venue was congested."What the tragedy raises more than anything — particularly in countries where EDM is a burgeoning scene and the full extent of its popularity is perhaps not yet fully registered — is the importance of full and stringent regulation on crowd size and venue capacity. Scenes like those in Gurgaon are avoidable. The event's organizers, Clockwork Events, have yet to release a statement.News via The Tribune.
