We all know the story of the newfangled Apple virus wreaking havoc on "Mac users’ delicate sensibilities, but check this insightful comment in an NYT piece. Why was Apple so slow?:

The 9th paragraph makes the point that should have led the story: Apple’s slow response. Oracle owns Java and releases updates/patches as required for Windows and Linux. Apple controls Java updates for OS X. The Oracle-Java fix for this problem was issued on Feb. 17th. Apple left the door open for 6 weeks on an issue that had been acknowledged and closed for Java running on other platforms. Why wouldn’t malware writers make a target of that? Apple’s slow response to java issues isn’t a new problem (and yes, other companies are sometimes slow to respond). See e.g. http://krebsonsecurity.com.
