Composer Eric Whitacre created his first virtual choir in 2009, 185 voices from around the world singing his composition “Lux Aurumque” via YouTube videos of themselves edited together into one gorgeous piece. He calls it his “virtual choir.” Understandably, it went viral.

Thursday, he unveils his virtual choir 2.0, comprised of over 2,000 people/videos, a marvel composing and singing—some performances took 50 or 60 takes—but also of video editing and rendering. In this TED talk, he explains the process of recruiting performers and compiling the videos, and also some of the reactions to the pieces he’s received from those performers. And two minutes of preview at the very end.
