A glacier-shaped headpiece made with LED strips slowly dims as time passes, recalling the melting of glaciers due to global climate change. After collaborating on a butterfly skirt which responds to brain waves, Birce Ozkan and Betty Quinn are back with another piece of wearable technology called Glacial. Made from arduinos, LED strips, plastic canvas, and cellophane, the luminous headpiece is quite stunning and its eventual fade is sobering. Check out the video of Glacial below.

Both masters of combining fashion and technology Ozkan and Quinn are interested in creating pieces which respond to their environments, and which tell stories. Glacial’s mimicry of nature combines these goals to create a beautiful piece which additionally serves to educate about global warming. Both artists are New York based.
