As you all probably know by now, the end of times is scheduled for tomorrow. A Christian-based cultish community did the math, figured everything out, and had enough evidence to declare Judgement Day on May 21. Or maybe they're wrong, and we still have a full year to live until the Armageddon. Or maybe the Apocalypse already happened, and we all live in an alternate reality, unconscious of the fact that our whole universe has vanished into the ether. To help us cope with the fatality of our extinction, video mashup experts Eclectic Method made a paranoid trip to the land that survived all disasters and faces Judgement Day pretty regularly: Hollywood. The Apocamix is a compilation of video samples taken from disaster movies and TV shows edited together to form a giant and terrifying vision of the Rapture. The video is indeed a rapid and hysterical series of flashing images shown in a split-screen, like your typical Law and Order-type TV shows. All the stereotyped figures of Apocalypse unfold before our eyes: sectarian prophets who wander the streets of New York with worrying signs, men in suits who look rather preoccupied, war rooms filled with tension, political leaders on the phone, army generals on the phone, scientists on the phone, TV screens barred with "Breaking News" alerts, a fair amount of explosions, nuclear mushrooms, Danny Glover, dinosaurs and, more surprisingly, a blues band in the middle of an improv.Eclectic Method describe their inspiration on their website:Realizing the end times were approaching fast, we decided to create the “Apocamix,” all the best disaster end times scenes remixed. Ever noticed how many times New York gets F'd in the A on the movie screen? Or how much zombies, monsters and Godzilla love Grand Central? We have.A couple of weeks ago, these sampling experts had given the celebrated and award-winning film The King's Speech a surprising treatment. Before that, we had the chance to interview Eclectic Method, and they were kind enough to give us an awesome 8-bit video mixtape. Since then, we have been following them and tracking their works with sophisticated tools such as Google Alert. But this time, they are taking the fun a step further.Have a wonderful Judgement Day everyone, and we’ll see you Monday morning. Or will we?
