Creators Remix Roundup Week 13

Afro-pop with a French twist, a peak inside the studio with DJ Wordy, and The Business is back…

Our Creators are a very talented and prolific bunch, and our inbox is always cluttered with alerts of new remixes and mashups from the incredible DJs and producers in our line-up. We just couldn't keep these fresh new tunes to ourselves because, after all, filesharing is caring. Here are our top picks from the past week.

Mark Ronson and The Business Intl.: “Record Collection” Remix (ft. MNDR, Professor Green, Wretch 32, Wiley, and Pharrell)

In Mark’s first song featuring his own voice, he brings back MDMR (who was featured in “Bang Bang Bang”), and employs a wide variety of new “Businessmen” for the remix. Grime superstars Professor Green, Wiley, and Wretch 32 inject their influence and sound between the verses, while N.E.R.D. frontman, Pharrell, gives us quite the smooth intro. We especially like hearing MDMR’s signature “who-oa’s” and “ah-ah’s” in the chorus, but the real magic of this remix lies in the harmonization. Hear for yourself above.

Amadou & Mariam: “La Realite” (Yuksek Remix)

Blind Malian duo Amadou & Mariam insist that their infectious Afro-pop is music for the world, and we definitely agree as they’ve toured the US with Coldplay, collaborated with Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour, and even performed at the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony in honor of Barack Obama. To celebrate their 30th anniversary of making music together, Amadou & Mariam, have released a remix compilation featuring Yuksek’s consistent talents on “La Realite.” The French DJ gives an electronic makeover to the track, subduing the vocals and complementing the bluesy electric guitar, making the soulful jam fit for dance floors from Mali to Japan and back again.

DJ Wordy + London Souls Studio Collaboration

To paraphrase DJ Wordy, when a band plays and a DJ scratches over it, the result is ok, “but if you create a DJ set with the band, that’s dope.” We couldn’t agree more. In the video, Wordy and London Soul lay down collaborative beats, while the Chinese DJ provides to be a interesting enhancement to a harder Western rock band. Glimpses of their vacation to Thailand are cut with studio time, making this a uniquely live, visual, and musical collaboration. We promise this one ends with a “bang.”
