In the video above, Todd Bieber, a New Yorker and fimmaker for the Upright Citizens Brigade, describes how he came across a lost canister of film while out for a cross-country ski in Prospect Park, Brooklyn after a crazy blizzard struck NYC late this past December. Instead of just leaving it there, he thought it would be more likely to find its owner if he took it with him and went on a search for that person. Kind of like an adventure. So, Bieber developed the film and discovered that the photos took place all over the city and appeared to be taken by some Europeans on holiday in NYC. More importantly though, the black and white photographs turned out to be unexpectedly stunning and professional-looking, and many of them took place while the blizzard was happening, resulting in unique, serene, ghostly portraits of the city.To get the message out there about this lost film, Bieber took to the best tool for global communication we have today: the internet. And in a savvy move, taking into account the potential viral nature of YouTube videos, he made a charming film about his adventure in the hope that by uploading it to YouTube it will be seen by a worldwide audience and eventually find its owner. So far it’s clocked up over a million views, but no sign yet of those mysterious people in the photos. Maybe you’re the owner or you recognize the people in the film, if so get in touch with Todd at: brooklynfoundfilm@gmail.com.The power of the internet, and Todd’s thoughtful action, will hopefully avail.
