I really dig art styles that lean towards the abstract in games. Pixels, voxels, chunky blocks of color meant to evoke rather than really depict—I like relying a bit on my imagination to do the work.
So I enjoyed walking and wandering through the blocky landscapes of Lands of Yocta, a small demo released by Trasevol_Dog, showing off a Pico-8 voxel engine they put together. There’s actually a fascinating blog post attached to the game that shows how they put it together, but, of course, if you prefer the mystery, you can wander the trees and ponds and rocks of Lands of Yocta just as happily without.

It’s a game of wandering, of exploring just for the sake of it, to see what’s over yonder, over the hills and under the stars. So it’s a perfect place to spend a lazy morning, or take a quick trip during work, if only to catch a break from the harsh lines of reality.
