Two security researchers revealed this week how they could hack internet-connected PDQ LaserWash car washes and cause the entryway and exit doors to strike a car to damage a vehicle and possibly injure its inhabitants. They could also close both doors to lock a vehicle and inhabitants inside the wash chamber and cause the mechanical arms that distributes water and wax to strike a vehicle.
It’s the first example they’re aware of showing a connected device being used to physically attack someone.

The researchers tested their attack on their own pickup truck at a car was in Washington state, with the car wash owner’s permission. Although they didn’t initially have permission to publish a video they made of the test when we published our story, the car wash has subsequently granted approval.
