Yesterday, the New York Times reported that former Secretary of State and First Lady Hillary Clinton never used a secure government email account during her time working in the State Department. She conducted all of her business through a personal email account—something like Gmail presumably, since Clinton doesn't seem like the Yahoo type. Using encrypted government accounts is required both for matters of national security and for automatically creating an email archives. The use of personal email accounts for official business is not unheard of in the State Department, but experts told the Times that "the use of private email accounts is supposed to be limited to emergencies."
