I have just been to the most enthusiastic show ever held possibly ever. The Sainte Catherines played with Fifth Hour Hero and None More Black and it was nothing short of amazing. I had never seen Fifth Hour live before and was pleasantly surprised by how much I loved them. They'll definitely be the guys I rip off the most when my band finally gets off the ground (or into existence). The combination of frontgal Geneviev Tremblay's tight lead vocals with guitarist…and bassist Olivier and Mathieu backing her up was like getting shot straight in the chest with a dance cannon. And I don't mean yeah, yeah, bopping our heads at a rock show, I mean flailing our arms like crazy, kicking the shit out of the air in front of us, and thrashing around like there's no tomorrow. I stood to the side dancing my feet off, but kids was really cutting loose. Both Fifth Hour Hero and the Sainte Catherines are Quebecois, so odds are most of you haven't had the chance to see them play, but for a bunch of Pepsis they are so fucking rad. Hugo is everything you could ask for in a charismatic frontman—he does that whole Jim Morrison "controlling the crowd" thing dead-on, but with none of the bearded, drunken excess baggage. It didn't hurt that there were dedicated fans up front who knew the words to every single song he sang and weren't afraid to belt them out. In response to this adulation, Hugo got so crazy that he threw himself to the floor and sang twitching for half the set on his back like a French Canadian James Brown. It was hot. So by the time None More Black came on stage, everyone was peaking in terms of happiness and drunkenness. Partway through their set, Jason Shevchuk (who used to sing Philly hardcore band Kid Dynamite) started making fun of how French Canadians dance. It was pretty tame, but the Pepsis in attendance, babies that they are, took umbrage and decided to pile onstage in rebellion. The show eventually just devolved into a huge water fight. All three bands were onstage with everybody else grabbing water bottle after water bottle and just dousing everything and everyone in sight. By the end of the set nobody was dry, and I have no fucking clue how any of the equipment was still functioning. It's not often you get a lineup this good. All the music was incredible and there wasn't an asshole to be found. Perfect night much?TALLI OSBORNE
