MARK GONZALES STUDIO SALE

Mark Gonzales is having a studio sale on Monday, and if you have ever so much as seen a skateboard, you should be there. We're talking about the guy that single-handedly made the whole "is skateboarding art?" argument a moot point in 1998 with the below video. I don't know what's gonna be there or what sort of loan you'll need to take out to go home with something, but I would guess there will be doodled-up bar napkins as well as actual paintings, so if you're anywhere in the eastern time zone, you might as well take a gander.

The Gonz at the Stadtisches Museum in Germany, debunking claims that skateboarding is a sport. Take that Sheckler!

One of my most prized possessions is a hand numbered, signed, Mark Gonzales zine that I got from his opening at the Half Gallery last summer. It's messy, looks sort of haphazardly thrown together, and it cost me $20, but it just might be my most favs thing ever. It pained me to take it out of its sealed display case for this photo (that's not a joke, I keep this mamma jamma framed on my bookshelf). If I can't afford anything at the studio sale maybe I'll just get him to sign this again?
