BRENT GREEN BROUGHT HIS HOUSE TO NYC

A few weeks ago when we focused our cinematic goggles on Brent Green for Weekend Watchin', we neglected to mention his solo exhibition at the Andrew Edlin Gallery in Chelsea. The show is the main character's house from Gravity Was Everywhere Back Then, Brent's first feature film. If you'll recall, Brent built an entire fucking town in his backyard to make that movie.

The house has the signature Brent Green feel to it. That is to say, when you walk in you're somehow happy, sad, angry, and maybe a little scared all at once. One gets the feeling that the whole thing is in imminent danger of falling over or going up in flames. While the house is relatively small, it does have a living room, kitchen, bathroom, and a lofted bedroom (that sadly, is bigger than mine). The trailer for Gravity and Mary Wood, a short film, play continuously on different walls throughout the gallery. Here's a few photos of the setup, which will be at the Andrew Edlin Gallery until June 5th.

This is the kitchen. As you can imagine, I had some doubts about this place being up to code.

As I mentioned earlier the house is rather small, and the lovely bathroom is about four feet away from the piano in the living room.

The piano actually works. The sound comes out of the phonograph horns, but Brent asks very politely that you keep your dirty hands off of it.

The most amazing reading chair I've ever seen.

The bed is lofted above the toilet in what is probably not the greatest achievement in architectural planning.
