Bordeaux forward Jeremy Menez has had a chunk of his ear ripped off in the middle of his debut game for the club.
Having signed for Bordeaux from AC Milan on 1 August, Menez donned his new shirt for the first time in a pre-season friendly with Lorient on Wednesday. After a seemingly innocuous clash with Lorient midfielder Didier Ndong, it became apparent that he was in serious pain.

As it turned out, Ndong had accidentally caught Menez’s ear with one of his studs. His momentum was quite significant, and he consequently tore the debutant’s ear to shreds.
Ndong has since expressed his sympathy for Menez, saying: “I offer my apologies to Jeremy Menez and Bordeaux following a totally unintentional accident, which had unfortunate consequences for the striker.”
Meanwhile, Bordeaux have announced that Menez has undergone “a surgical procedure”, presumably to reattach his horrendously severed ear.
