An employee fired in April from a suburban Orlando, Florida business returned to his former workplace Monday and killed five people before killing himself, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department said.The sheriff identified the gunman as 45-year-old John Robert Neumann Jr. The victims, four men and a woman, were all employees of Fiamma, a company that makes accessories for motor homes.Sheriff’s deputies arrived at about 8 a.m. after receiving a call about a shooting. They found Neumann already dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot room, according to Sheriff Jerry Demings.

Neumann, who was discharged from the Army in 1999, was reportedly armed with a handgun and a large hunting knife. Demings said most victims were shot through the head, some multiple times, and it appeared that Neumann reloaded the gun at least once. Sheriff’s deputies had not yet obtained a search warrant for the house in which they believe Neumann lived alone.Eight people inside the office survived. Demings said that when a young woman who is a temporary employee of the company encountered Neumann during the shooting, he pointed his gun at her and told her to get out. She left and called 911.Law enforcement was called to Fiamma in 2014 after receiving a report of violence involving Neumann, but no complaint was filed.Monday’s killings represent the year’s 114th mass shooting in the U.S., according to the Gun Violence Archive.
