Will Wilcox Hits Hole-In-One On Island Green at TPC Sawgrass, Loses His Mind

It's been a while since someone aced this hole. A celebration was warranted.

The Players Championship kicked off yesterday at TPC Sawgrass and it is home to the most famous hole in golf: the island green at 17. Technically, it's a peninsula, but whatever. The entire hole is just a putting green surrounded by one giant water hazard and even though these guys are professionals, it still crosses the best up. It's a 137-yard Par 3 and most are happy to just to get on the green. So it's no surprise that it's been 14 years and over 6,000 tee shots since the last ace, when Miguel Angel Jimenez did it in the first round of the 2002 tournament. Enter Will Wilcox.

Playing the hole for only the second time ever, he punched a shot that landed a few feet from the hole and then started rolling. Wilcox was happy to get it so close to the pin, but then it kept rolling and didn't stop until it went in. He then promptly lost his shit. I played Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2009 until it just stopped working, and only ever played Sawgrass specifically because of this hole and had I hit a hole-in-one there (I am not good at video games) my reaction would be on par with Wilcox's. He hugged basically every person in the tee box—he leapt into his caddy's arms first—and than slapped five with just about every fan he walked by on the way to get his ball.

Yep, still there.
