For the last few years, photography platform The Adventure Handbook has allowed us to vicariously travel all over the world. We’ve hitchhiked through Armenia and peddled through Patagonia. We’ve even slacklined Yosemite. Using a network of international contributors from many walks of life, from seasoned professionals to taxi drivers, the photo essays go off the beaten track and are often intensely personal.
The Adventure Handbook recently announced their first-ever photo prize, inviting everyone and anyone to submit their best travel photos (they also asked us to be on their judging panel). The finalists will be exhibited—and the winner announced—at a photo show on Friday May 20 at Sydney’s Goodspace Gallery. Of the 92 shortlisted entries, here are some of our favorites, along with the stories behind them.
