Take Off Your Pants, Not Your Jacket

Tonight, the New York-based creative company ALLDAYEVERYDAY will open their new gallery space in Alphabet City with an art show that's all about the cultural power of the jacket, the "chosen fashion of outlaws, punks, rebels, and bikers."

Tonight, New York-based creative company ALLDAYEVERYDAY will open their new gallery space in Alphabet City with an art show dedicated to the art of jackets. Initially, we were skepitcal. Everyone we know owns a jacket, mostly because we live in an area where the temperature periodically drops below 65 degrees. Some are brown, some are black, most are green for some reason. Some have buttons, some have zippers. Nothing crazy, guys, just jackets. But the more I read about the show and looked at the pictures, the more I realized how interesting and integral jackets can be to creative and cultural personality. Jackets are the "chosen fashion of outlaws, punks, rebels, and bikers. To them, a jacket is an identity, a medium to express loyalty, acceptance, love, hate, rejection, freedom, and nonconformity," says ALLDAYEVERYDAY. The show, entitled DILLIGAF (google what it means) brings together artist, clothing designers, and musicians into one big jacket party. People featured include Claire Barrow, Gio Forfex, Erik Foss, Othelo Gervacio, Jack Greer, Patrick Griffin, Alexander Heir, Lyz Olko, and Tamara Santibanez. You should go and wear your favorite green jacket.
