A few months ago, we decided to make a series of short films on one of the silliest, most iconic synths on earth. The result of which is The Stylophone, directed by William Fairman (who also directed The Deer Hunter), which is launched in full here on VBS.TV today. Click through to see the trailer. The Stylophone was originally invented as a children’s toy until it fell into the hands of Rolf Harris, who called it “the biggest little instrument of the century” and brought it to global fame. After, Bowie used it on “Space Oddity”. It also pretty much invented Kraftwerk.
This is Brian Jarvis, the mind behind the Stylophone. He is in the film, seen here holding the first piece of Stylophone history, the original circuit board. The Stylophone is about the cutest instrument ever made, and the story behind it is a weird combination of extreme geeks, pop stars and bedroom science.Incidentally, the film was supposed to be an epic short featuring Rolf Harris jamming with Little Boots. Rolf is pretty much responsible for the success of the Stylophone and Little Boots is more obsessed with the little things than a pretty girl should be. We asked Rolf for a short interview to support the film, but his agent said he didn’t want to be associated with his past. One week later he did this. Lying twerp.Watch The Stylophone now.
