Leaks' New EP Jaunt Is a Playful Journey into Subterranean Soul

Leaks shares some secrets behind each track on latest EP.

Jaunt is the latest release from Leaks, the Melbourne-based otherwise known as Thomas Guida. Sure enough it's a playful blend of Leaks' signature electronic styles, but this is not a carefree sonic excursion. Leaks is delving deeper than ever into subterranean soul and R&B, sharing some very intimate thoughts across the four new tracks. His launch of the EP is happening December 6th at The Curtin, and will be the best opportunity yet to see this artist share his unique musical expressions. To give us greater insight Leaks stopped by to discuss the EP track by track.

"Could I Be" is the opening track from Jaunt. Being the last track to be written for the Ep you would expect its storyline to take place somewhere in the near future, essentially after the events the other tracks from the EP were based on. However "Could I Be" is inspired by past events, deriving influence from relationships and wellbeing, it is written as a conversation between a pair as they discuss the cognitive state of one individual.

"Often It's You" is the most personal track featured on Jaunt. Written with the intention of acknowledging past regrets within relationships, the track required me to be honest with other individuals but mostly to be honest with myself. It all charts the gradual crossing from ambiguity, to reassurance, to comfort within a new relationship.

Initially "Give" was written with lyrics, however after much consideration I decided that it was best to remove them to maintain the constant flow of comfort I originally set out to achieve. "Give" was written with the intention of interpreting the positives found with in any relationship, whether it be a friendship or a romance.

"Underthought" is the closing track from Jaunt. It focuses on the emotional waves that are blended into all relationships, particularly centering on the constant realisation that this is something that shouldn't be taken for granted and should instead be valued rather than being flooded with dissatisfaction.
