Who is Sluggers? The Mysterious Miami Duo is ON DECK

Judging by the tracklist, they're either: Jimmy Edgar, Kove, Alex Metric, Amtrac, or Armand van Helden.

Identity is so overrated. Anonymity is the new black. Just ask Sluggers, the Miami duo that maybe you didn't even know was a duo making some of the sexiest, skin-crawlingest dark techno on the market. They're keeping their identity hidden, even if Skrillex, A-Trak, Diplo, and Boys Noize have been reppin' their sound from the get.

"It's not really trying to create an image or anything like that," they say. "It's just music letting the music speak for itself."

Would you recognize Sluggers? Probably, but the mystery allows both dudes to explore sounds outside the scope of their solo careers without presky preconceptions. "It's a good outlet for me to do stuff that I can't really do with the (redacted) project," a Slugger says. "I love techno music, and it kind of doesn't fit (redacted) at the moment. I can't just jump into mind-melting techno."

"Sluggers is definitely the outlet that we just go crazy on," they say. "We have a lot of fun with that project, for sure."

They caught a big break when Skrillex included them in his Essential Mix, and they've since taken the stage at EDC Vegas, Ultra, and TomorrowWorld, and kicked off the year with an official remix of Diplo's "Revolution." If you live in Miami, you've had the chance to catch Sluggers opening up for GTA, Jack Beats, Knife Party, Baauer, and more. That right there is a fresh mix of sounds none quite like the last, but with one common denominator.

"The bass is crazy in all of our stuff," Sluggers says. "We're just trying to search for crazier sounds every time we create an EP."

For their latest, the three-track Voyager available now via Main Course, the fellas samples a bunch of interstellar noise released by NASA. It makes for some pretty spacey, haunting, interplanetary, dark matter music. And because they are nice, the whole thing is available for free download on Sluggers' SoundCloud.

Likewise, those ghetto-booty-meets-alien-invasion style grooves can be heard in the exclusive mix the duo so kindly put together for our ON DECK series, along with a bunch of tracks and vibes the dudes' have been riding. If, for some sad and inexplicable reason, you've never been introduced to Sluggers before, this is the perfect primer.

What's coming on the horizon? The duo hope to get in the studio for a full-length LP, perhaps to be ready around WMC season. Whenever that happens, they plan to put together a live set to go along with it. There's always more to look forward to, but as is their style, some of the best shit stays close to the chest.

"We have a lot of tracks that we'll probably never put out, so as to stand apart in our DJ sets," they say. "We want people to be like, 'how do I get that"' You can't get that. That's on the flash drive. Better come watch us live."
