DJ Derek's Family Have Started Legal Proceedings to Have Him Presumed Dead

The esteemed selector has been missing since July 2015.

After a brief moment of hope late last year, this isn't news that any one had been expecting. The family of 73 year old Derek Morris, the esteemed DJ and local legend who was first reported missing back in July 2015, have started the legal process of getting him presumed dead. According to the Bristol Post, "it will mean the family can get power of attorney over his bank accounts, which have not been touched since he disappeared more than seven months ago."

Derek's brother Gerald, aged 78, believes that the family's decision will give them a sense of "closure," even if they cannot confirm if and when their request will be granted. Speaking to the paper, Gerald noted that, "One very strong piece of evidence is that since the day he disappeared his bank accounts have remained untouched. Although there are lots of theories that he could have been ill or there could have been foul play, it is just speculation and there is no evidence to point to any of that. He had no reason to just disappear and it would have been totally out of character. He had no enemies and was a mild and laid back man, so none of it really makes sense," before adding, "All we can hope for is that whatever end he has come to, it was not a nasty one."

We will bring you more news as and when we have it.
