Trimensional [iPhone 4]
The first 3D scanner for the iPhone is here. Developed by Grant Schindler, the Trimensional (its name is taken from an Asimov novel) captures low-res 3D models of people’s faces without requiring anything more than your iPhone 4 and a dark room. Using light emitted from the device (brightness needs to be cranked up to the max), the front facing camera detects the reflected light to build a 3D image of the face. So go ahead and turn out the lights, turn away and start creating your own 3D art.

Sonorasaurus Rex [iPad]
After having recently released a 2.2 version back in November (the video below is V.1.2), this app from Pajamahouse gives you DJing on the go with two turntables, mixer, split mode setting for cuing songs, and access to your iPod library. In a nutshell, everything you need to turn up and start mixing. The price isn’t too hefty either, so all in all, it’s a decent DJ app which also features a tutorial for DJ novices.

Google Translate [Android]
The new version of Google Translate for Android—along with improvements to design—has included the most practical feature yet, real-time translation in their Conversation Mode. Although it’s still at an experimental stage, it’s already pretty amazing. Once in the mode, the interface allows you to chat with a nearby person in another language. Press the microphone for your language (currently only Spanish or English) and then speak, your device will translate what you say and read it aloud, they respond and it does the same for them.

Papa Sangre [iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad]

Released last December from

Somethin' Else

, this innovative game, which takes inspiration from Mexico’s Day of the Dead celebration, has no graphics. Instead, it uses sounds to create detailed 3D worlds for you to explore. Play in as dark a room as possible with headphones and let this horror game immerse you in a terrifying world which uses binaural sound to help you navigate from room to room—using the touchscreen interface— while outwitting stalking monsters.
