Korea's 360 Sounds Crew Broadcasts Live Hip-Hop

The 360 Sounds crew presents the 360 RadioStation: Live on Stage, bi-monthly live broadcasts with Korea’s finest underground hip-hop artists.

360 Sounds was formed in 2005 by Korean DJs Soulscape, Jinmoo, and Plastic Kid with the initial goal of satiating a subculture hungry for good parties and fresh hip-hop music. Since then, the triad has expanded to officially include MC Make-1, DJ YTst, DJ Andow, Nak, and Lil Min—but informally involves an entire posse of street culture creatives. The group does much more than simply bringing the best parties up and down the South Korean coast—from Seoul to Daegu to Busan—360 Sounds has developed into a subculture icon by managing their own branding, gear, and video production. They certainly dip their hands into a quite a bit more than their own wax. From coordinating sweat-heavy basement B-boy battles to jockeying for the WE RUN SEOUL 10K along the Han River, these boys, as they say it, "offer the freshest culture in Seoul City."

DJ Soulscape might be the most familiar name in the 360 crew, but we think you should also be acquainted with Make-1, who used to spit in one of Korea's first generation underground crews, Ill Skillz, alongside with Leo Kakao and Vinnie del Negro with occasional cuts by DJ Soulscape. The assertion in his voice and complexity of his lyrics distinguishes him as one of the most well-versed MCs in the young history of Korean hip-hop. If your Korean skills are adept, check out one of these heyday classics with Make-1 on verse 3.

The crew’s other endeavor, 360 Sounds RadioStation, started in 2006 to give much-needed recognition to artists in the burgeoning community. Today, you can only imagine the archived jewels of original recordings they've backed up. From Rickey Kim of Evil Monito, to Zulu Nation Korea leader JAZ AKA Jazzy Ivy, to Korean-American rapper Dumbfoundead, the radio station roster boasts elemental contributors and continues to do so.

Moving their broadcasts from the studio to the stage of (Korean MTV equivalent) Mnet’s sponsored restaurant venue, Mpub, 360 Sounds gives everyone—well, everyone in Seoul—the chance to enjoy eclectic good beats, good eats, and good beers.

One of their last broadcasts featured MC and producer, The Quiett. Quite shy and soft-spoken offstage, but surprisingly suave and smooth-talkin' on stage, The Quiett holds a steady reputation for his original productions and lyrically laden flows. He recently established the independent label ILLIONAIRE Records with underground prodigy Dok2, gaining much fan-frenzy media attention. With seven albums, two mixtapes, and collaborations with Drunken Tiger, Tasha (Yoon Mirae), and Epik High, this young rapper certainly has nothing to be quiet about.

Stay posted to 360 Sounds website for future 360 RadioStation events. If you're unfortunately far from Seoul, you can catch their broadcasts live from Twit On Air or check back on their website for session recordings.
