G’OLD (Good Old) Korean Vinyl is a web-based ongoing playlist strictly dedicated to undiscovered and out-of-print records culled from the last 60 years of Korea’s volatile music scene. A collaboration between Seoul-based DIY indie promotion company SuperColorSuper and music bar Gopchang Jeongol—known for their extensive LP collection of Korean rarities—G’OLD combats the K-Pop driven mainstream with digital resurrections of Korea’s un(der)recognized classics.Forget groups of 15 teenage bionic girls molded and synced with choreographed plastic smiles. Expect old, weathered, and spirited musicians. Expect funk, rock, disco, folk and cross-genre productions during times of turbulent cultural influx and readjustment. Other than DJ Soulscape‘s seminal Sounds of Seoul project, G’OLD unabashedly sets you up with a relatively untouched and unheard spectrum of music to be re-discovered and appreciated.Check out their first mixtape below and continue to check back for more Good Old Korean vinyl.
