Tickets Just Released For Karen O's New "Psycho Opera"

The experimental new performance from the inimitable Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman debuts at St. Ann’s Warehouse this October.

Karen O’s mysterious new “psycho opera” is set to debut October 12th at St. Ann’s Warehouse in DUMBO as part of our Creators Project NY event. Called Stop the Virgens, the opera sees the Yeah Yeah Yeahs front woman combining the worlds of music, film and theater in a vivid visual performance. Tickets for the limited run performance have just been released and can be purchased on the St. Ann’s Warehouse website starting today.

Produced through our new Studio initiative, the opera was co-created by Karen O and renowned design director KK Barrett, and directed by Pulitzer Prize-finalist Adam Rapp. It features nine new songs written by Karen O with musical direction from Yeah Yeah Yeah’s bandmate Nick Zinner and producer Sam Spiegel of N.A.S.A..

Taking inspiration from niche cinema like spaghetti westerns, noir films and a good dose of Lynchian surrealism, the psycho opera promises to be a feast for the senses. To turn the spectacle into reality, O has assembled an all-star cast of collaborators, including: actress Lili Taylor, Beastie Boys producer Money Mark, Jack Lawrence and Patrick Keeler of The Raconteurs, YYY’s drummer Brian Chase, Jason Grisell, Gillian Rivers, Yuiko Kamakari, and Justin Kantor, along with a cast of singers and dancers choreographed by Mariangela Lopez with costume design by Christian Joy, make up & hair design by Mike Potter, Projection Design by Darrel Maloney, Lighting Design by Keith Parham and Sound Design by Andres Velasquez.

“The process of creating the production has been about tuning into the music and letting it's cinematic qualities conjure all the facets of the live experience,” says O. “I brought the performing arts to the music because it felt like a natural pairing. It's always felt as though the music was calling out to be much more than just a record.”

The visually seductive performance will be the anchor of our cultural extravaganza in DUMBO, taking place October 14-16 and encompassing live music performances, multimedia installations, screenings and panels.
