8-Bit Enemies Invade The Suburbs In Retro Warfare

If only video games were actually like this.

Remember that old video game where you played a kid from the suburbs armed with a handgun and your steel wit, pounding the pavement to hunt down enemies from other retro games? No? That’s because it didn’t exist. But Andrew McMurry, of Andrewmfilms, apparently thought that it should, if only in the form of the above video. Familiar enemies from gaming’s 8-bit past—the aliens from Space Invaders, the Spiny koopas and Bob-ombs from Mario, and the ghosts from Pac-Man—materialize in typical suburban surroundings to drop bombs on your head.

McMurry’s no stranger to taking icons from the world of video games and displacing them into our own reality—having done a real life Mario, Minecraft, and Metal Slug, he’s part of a breed of YouTube filmmakers, like Freddie Wong and Corridor Digital, who make mixed reality, After Effects-heavy short films of gaming’s biggest hits. And yeah, we can’t help but love them.
