This is a great, great Spring Training clip. We’re getting to the point where the regular season is so close, most guys are just ready to play for real, and these exhibition games reach a whole new level of meaninglessness. For proof, look no further than Yoenis Cespedes simply refusing to bend down and pick up a ball that was resting up against the centerfield wall and allowing an inside the park home run to Houston’s A.J. Reed.
The ball landed directly under the padding and never moved, so when he got there, Cespedes signaled to the umpires that he thought it was a dead ball and a should have been called a ground rule double. For a minute Reed thought that was the case, too, and only kept running the bases when his teammates yelled at him to keep going. C.B. Buckner wasn’t buying it, though, and ran out to the wall to check it out. Not long after we were given the delightful image of Buckner simply nudging the ball away from the wall for Cespedes and giving him a “what are you doing out here, man?” look.

Not included in the clip was our favorite color man, Keith Hernandez, later dropping a “what are ya thinkin’, Lincoln?”
