Kavinsky's Got Game

French electro dude Kavinsky has a new free videogame for your phone. Plus some other DJ apps you should get... or not.

White high-top sneakers, leather gloves, and a red varsity jacket… you might recognize French DJ/producer Kavinsky from his promo pictures, dressed like every cool guy from every '80s movie, sitting on the hood of the red sportscar he probably bought after his music was featured all over the movie Drive. (The car is cool for the picture but the truth is Kavinsky takes the subway like everybody else in Paris, where it's a real nightmare to drive.)

And what's more boring than a subway ride after you have already checked all your timelines? To fill this gap, Kavinsky created a GTA-like videogame app featuring all his own songs, and it's releasing July 8 for free. Ooh la la. The game is called Kavinsky, just in case you FORGET WHO MADE IT while you're playing it.

Kavinsky isn't the first DJ to have launched his own app. We made this list you should check right now instead of saving money to buy a Kindle.

OTHER DJ APPS FOR YOU

PLASTIKMAN'S SYNK
This is the official companion app to Richie Hawtin's Plastikman live show where he tells you what tracks he's playing, you can chat to other fans, you can see a video of… In short, doing anything instead of dancing and enjoying the music. Welcome to the future.

CASSIUS - I <3 U SO
Based on a Cassius song, the app allows you to choose between 8 mouths singing the track to put it front of yours and… that's all! "The perfect modern declaration of love," says the description… but honestly, you shouldn't. Ever.

CARL COX MIXER
Guess what Carl Cox does after a gig when he wakes up in his hotel room? Well, he grabs his iPad and starts a little mix, just for fun. Then he probably has some food. Then he goes back to his mixing app. Then he has some food again. How cool is that?

DAVID GUETTA'S ElectroBeats
Look at the video thumbnail below: "Now let's use the cool "mute" feature using the multi-touch screen…" Man, whoever did this, you are a genius. Actually, if we were in 1945, after WWII, this guy who made this (who is probably another unpaid intern) would be called a hero.

JAMIE LIDELL FOR iMASCHINE
Since when did it become so cool to make music in bed? After Carl Cox, Jamie Lidell does the same sketch and still nobody believes it. Who will be next?
