Viral Style: Futuristic Contact Lenses And Flosstradamus' Twist On USB Drives

Viral Style #34 also includes details about the Intel x Opening Ceremony collaboration and Kanye's Bitcoin

FASHION COLLAB OF THE WEEK

Did you hear? Intel is teaming up with one of our fave brands, Opening Ceremony! Seriously, no lie--it was announced at CES this week. This unusual combo of designer brand and technology giant could potentially signal the way towards bigger and better (and more consumer-friendly) things happening in the world of wearable tech. The Creators Project already reported on Intel's new wearable initiative, too. As is stands, details about the collaboration are pretty sparse other than that it will take the form of a ‘smart bracelet’ that will be on sale at Barneys. It may be hush-hush now, but if OC are designing it, we’re sure it’ll look slick.

CONTACT LENS DISPLAY OF THE WEEK

We've spoken before about the impending advancement of display-enhanced contact lenses, and now it looks like the future is all but here--a new initiative called iOptik (created by US company Innovega) has recently been revealed to the public, offering wearers the chance to wear a pair of tiny high-def virtual screens right before their eyes.

iOptik lenses create the experience of viewing a 240-inch TV screen at a distance of 10 feet when worn with a pair of branded glasses, allowing users to switch between features like augmented reality, video, visual calls and more. Crafted with a sub-millimeter lens built into the center, the eyewear is able to utilize either window or immersive viewing, and can access all the features a smartphone can when connected to one. It's even been said that the technology could be linked to touch, audio and motion control in the future.

YEEZY-INSPIRED DIGITAL CURRENCY OF THE WEEK

It pretty much goes without saying that Kanye has gotten almost uncomfortably big now. I mean, we're all kinda half-versed in some of those crazy rants he's been going off on recently, at the very least--but as influential as he is, none of us would have guessed that a Yeezy-inspired cryptocurrency was going to be hitting the Internet anytime soon. 'Coinye West' (aka the newest take on the Bitcoin phenomenon) is set to launch tomorrow, promising a "PROPER and FAIR" digital currency to all. Thing is, this currency has no official affiliation with Kanye. At all. Allegedly, the creators are even worried that the real deal could shut them down if/when he finds out about it--but they reckon they can sweeten the deal, promising to pay him 100,000 Coinye if he gets in touch with them before they launch on the 11th.

UPDATE: Turns out, Coinye has actually launched early, despite the efforts of Kanye's lawyers to enforce a freshly obtained cease-and-desist order. How's that for dedication?

TIME-TRACKING ACCESSORY OF THE WEEK

Are you someone who's always late? Losing friends, relationships and work opportunities as a result? Well, do we have the wearable tech accessory for you. This new Durr bracelet is a piece of kit that vibrates every five minutes, alerting you to wake up, sort yourself out and stop dicking around (or whatever). Created by techy duo Theo Tveterås and Lars Marcus Vedeler, the initial design concept was to generate a "a haptic rhythm to make us notice the changing tempo of time"… pretty fancy words for something that'll essentially stop us forgetting about that pizza in the oven, but we'll go with it.

#MUSTHAVE OF THE WEEK

While everyone's seen mixtapes passed around via generic mediums like USBs or D/Ls, recently DJ duo Flosstradamus have stepped up their media-share game to the next level. Their latest compilation, B⚠NNED 3D, was recently dropped in the form of an 'aromatherapy infused vaporiser' that also functions as a 4GB hard drive. Looks good, sounds good, smells good--what's not to like?
