The movement of Lake Superior becomes an undulating mechanical sculpture in artist David Bowen’s installation Underwater.The artist placed a modified Kinect onto the surface of the lake which records the wave patterns and then translates them into the rippling movements of the sculpture, which replicates the water’s movement using servo-motors.As people stand under the installation, the grid ebbs and flows as if you were standing under the surface of the water, simulating the effect of being under Lake Superior, except without the drowning part. It’s part of the Future Primitives series at INTERIEUR 2012.
