Good Morning Moon

Soundtrack to the stars.

Ever thought about what space explorers listen to while trapped in suits inside a ship, zooming to territories very few people ever see with their own eyes?

Us neither. Until now.

According to CBS News, astronauts typically awaken to tunes selected by their friends and family (awww), but for the U.S. space agency’s last two shuttle missions set to take off in November and next February, we’ve all been invited to submit their opinions on what should be on the rousing mix.

Apparently, there are some restrictions though, as one can only choose from space-themed original songs submitted by songwriters, or from a list of 40 previous wake-up songs (lame) that include “Magic Carpet Ride” by Steppenwolf and “Drops of Jupiter” by Train.

If we were to make a playlist for the astronauts, we’d wake them slowly with songs like “Sail to the Moon (Brush the Cobwebs of the Sky)” by Radiohead and “Lady Pilot” by Neko Case before transitioning to some more upbeat songs like “Starstruck” by Lady Gaga, “Space Cowboy”" by *NSYNC, or “Venus vs. Mars” by Jay-Z. Oh, and we’d throw in “Big Bang” by creator, N.A.S.A., obviously.

Honestly this is so fun, we’re creating a whole space themed playlist right now. What songs would you want to wake up to in space?
