LONDON - A FIST IN THE FACE OF GOD ON TAAKE

I know what you're thinking: Taakeis a little obvious. Maybe you're right, but having seen the impressive live show at the Underworld in Camden last weekend I thought it apt to talk about. I honestly don't see too many live shows, as they're not really my thing (not enough pure, filtered bottled water or bongs for my liking), but this was pretty exceptional.

The live line-up was tight, featuring members of Helheim, Deathcult and Slavia. Bassist V'Gandrcame a close second but the showman of the group is undoubtedly Ulvedhin Hoest, Taake's enigmatic frontman. The whole band wore corpse paint and the same Taake shirt, except for Hoest, who was shirts-off and brandishing some pretty real tattoos as expected. He had the Taake shield logo on one arm, the Svartekunst logo on the other, and the Nekro EP logo on his chest. Oh, and an inverted cross on his stomach and a rune on his back.

Anyway, Taake, if you haven't seen them live already, are pretty much like the black metal Iggy & the Stooges. Seriously. They opened with the awesome "Voldtekt," which sounds much better live than on the aforementioned Nekro, so I chose it to play to you guys. Prior to this show I feel maybe I'd overlooked this track but seeing it live made me realize just how good it is. It starts out as a traditional tnbm workout before going almost grungey. I hate trying to describe music so just do as I always suggest and listen to the track. In full. You won't regret it. It might even change your life.

I interviewed Hoest a while back. Click here to read that.
