Tonight at Superchief LA: Giant Sharks and the End of the Beginning

Superchief LA's inaugural show, Grand Opening, will have its Grand Closing party tonight.

Back in May, we featured a story by longtime VICE friend Ed Zipco about his cross-country odyssey carrying $500,000 of artwork from NYC to LA. The art in that truck was hung on the walls of Superchief Gallery's new 4,000-square-foot warehouse in downtown LA, and their mammoth inaugural show, called Grand Opening, opened grandly. It features more than 45 artists including SWOON, Paul Kwiatkowski, Ben Pier, Prettypuke, and way more cool people than it would be productive to name here.

But, all good things must come to an end. Grand Opening will have its Grand Closing party tonight, and to memorialize this beast of a group show, Superchief is preparing an exterior wall of the gallery for street artist Shark Toof to paint a giant fucking shark onto, live. That's right Los Angeles—if you come to Superchief's closing party tonight, you can drink beer and watch this shit go down while you mourn the death of what may objectively have been the greatest inaugural show of all time. It's going to look something like this:
