It was less than a month ago that Rabit put out his terrific debut album, Communion, but thankfully he's already come back with new material. Over the weekend, he took his hand to MHYSA and Chino Amobi's "Power Cuts"—a track we have previously covered in its video incarnation—and gave it a free-floating, haunted remix. Where the original was insistent in its churning samples and bass lurches, Rabit has loosened up the seams a little bit, resulting in a track that feels ominously there and not there at the same time. It's quite a different sound than the incessant scorch he employed on the LP.
The original version of "Power Cuts" can be found on NON Records' first compilation, which is available now on Bandcamp. In their bio, the label writes, "NON is a collective of African artists, and of the diaspora, using sound as their primary media, to articulate the visible and invisible structures that create binaries in society, and in turn distribute power."
