2016 was a massive year for Ultra Music Festival, with new festival locations including Seoul, Tokyo, Singapore, and Hong Kong. 2017 will continue the momentum. According to a report from the South China Morning Post, festival organizers have plans to announce, "major additional expansion plans" for 2017.

The group does not seem to be fazed by the rise of electronic music festivals both in the United States, where Ultra was founded, or abroad. "We've always had a master plan," said Russell Faibisch, the co-founder of Ultra. The group's massive international expansion plans began years earlier, but ramped up in 2016.

Earlier this year, a University of Miami college student died after attending Ultra Music Festival.
