Are NutriBullet Blenders Melting People's Faces Off?

“My skin was melting off my face," one victim said. "It was unbearable.”

Buyers of the popular, informercial-famous NutriBullet are finding out that the product name is literal, but not for the reasons those high-energy commercials may want you to believe. Apparently, the most striking resemblance between the NutriBullet and an actual bullet is that the appliance might just explode in your face.

Those familiar with the world of "as seen on TV" products surely know the NutriBullet, whose promises of a "longer, healthier, active life"—with just one "Nutriblast" serving per day!—have helped sell more than 40 million units worldwide.

But according to a new investigation on the Australian news show Today Tonight Adelaide, with further reporting by The Sun, users of the blenders around the world are being scalded by hot liquids that spew from defective NutriBullets.

Imagine: One minute you're making a chia smoothie, and the next your face is melting. Think we're exaggerating? Take a look at the pictures from The Sun.

And just listen to these accompanying testimonials from not-so-satisfied customers quoted in the article:

"Burning liquid landed on my arms, hands and face. I was in extreme pain."

"I thought I was blind. I could see the skin of my eyelid hanging down."

"My skin was melting off my face. It was unbearable."

"Medics told me the liquid rested on top of the nerves without destroying them so it just continued to burn the nerve."

If these testimonials are to be believed, Nutribullet not only blends food, but warms it up and Nutriblasts it all over you and your kitchen! All for the low, low cost of $80!

These are also far from the first allegations of exploding Nutribullets to emerge. A Florida couple sued the company in November after they were burned by their exploding Nutribullet, and in January, a 36-year-old Brooklyn woman filed a suit to the Brooklyn Supreme Court alleging that her Nutribullet exploded in her face and scalded her while she was making a smoothie.

Nutribullets come with a manufacturer's warning not to use hot liquids or ingredients in the appliance. MUNCHIES has reached out to Nutribullet for comment on the matter but has not yet received a response.
