With a focus on the spectators and natural landscapes surrounding them, Paolo Pellizzari photographs major sporting events, his panoramic wide frames capturing intimate details at once, and offering a humane and beautiful earnestness. His roots are deep in the Dussledorf School of Photography, a dedication to the large-scale format reminscent of Andreas Gursky. It's an artistic value that dominates every composition, the constant attention to get the entire view on a large format.
“This is not conventional sports photography, the kind that sticks to the hero from the breakaway to the podium," Pellizzari tells The Creators Project. "I have opted for a wider view like a stage play, it allows each aspect to be examined: the competitors as well as the spectators."
