Mira Calix Collaborators Minimaforms Send Smoke Signals

Sky texting and other avant garde architecture.

Minimaforms, an architecture and design duo made up of siblings Stephen and Theodore Spyropoulos, create experimental designs that range from cellular bio-structures to cultural prosthetics to participatory performance art. Their aim is to pose questions rather than seek answers. With Memory Cloud, an exhibition that transformed London’s Trafalgar Square into a smoke-filled transient conversation in which they asked members of the public to send text messages which they then projected onto the plumes of smoke, they explored the question of how architecture affects communication. The Spyropouloses also collaborated with creator Mira Calix on a performance piece featuring light and sound called Machina Speculatrix (A Machine That Watches). Click through the slideshow above for a glimpse of more of their curious work.
