Anybody who grew up in the ‘80s will remember the brilliant John Carpenter movies like The Thing, Big Trouble in Little China, and They Live—Carpenter’s the cinematic mastermind responsible for defining the slasher flick with Halloween in the ‘70s, along with making plenty of other classic movies. Although his films spanned multiple genres from horror to action to sci-fi, they all had one thing in common: the dark, tense, and gloomy soundtracks made by Carpenter himself, along with sometime collaborator Alan Howarth who he worked with on the soundtrack for cult classic Escape from New York. Now, Alan Howarth has made a mixtape for Resident Advisor’s Halloween podcast, and it’s full of the brooding atmospheric sounds that are so familiar to fans of Carpenter’s work. Although Halloween’s long gone, it doesn’t stop it from being an awesome listen, so go check it out here.
