In a statement released Wednesday, former US President Jimmy Carter announced that he has cancer and will be seeking treatment at Emory Healthcare in his home state of Georgia.Carter underwent surgery at Emory to remove a mass in his liver last week. During the operation, surgeons discovered that cancer had spread to "other parts of [his] body," according to Wednesday's statement.Today's short press release from the Carter Center promised an in-depth briefing when more is known about the cancer, most likely next week. The 90-year-old Democrat is the second-oldest living ex-president, after George H. W. Bush, who is 91.
